MOLE : Episode Three

Mole married Porky on 1st April 2004 in a romantic ceremony on Bournemouth beach. The joyful wedding party made its way to the Pavilion for the wedding reception, but Mole was knocked down by a car on the way and suffered a broken leg. He was unable to work and earn money for twelve weeks.

Richard Sedgley & Co advised Mole that he could claim compensation for his injuries and for all the extra money he had to spend on medicine. They said that that he would be responsible for their charges and expenses but if his claim was successful or was settled, these could be recovered from the car driver’s insurers.

Mole could not afford to fund his claim privately and he did not have legal expenses insurance. Richard Sedgley & Co therefore entered into a Conditional Fee Agreement with Mole (sometimes known as ‘no win, no fee’), which meant that they would not charge him for their work if he lost his case. If he won or settled his case, they would attempt to recover most or all of his legal costs from the other side on top of Mole’s compensation. They obtained a medical report on his leg injury, and Mole gave them his pay slips, prescription medicine labels and receipts. This evidence persuaded the car driver’s insurers to compensate Mole for his pain and suffering and his loss of wages, to refund his expenses and to pay his legal costs.
